Big Lime Weekend postponed
Hartlepool’s Big Lime Weekend, which culminates in the town’s annual sprint triathlon, has been postponed this year due to COVID-19.
It was due to take place from Friday August 14th-Sunday August 16th but will not now be held until 2021.
Hartlepool Borough Council which organises the weekend, says it has taken the decision to protect the health and wellbeing of competitors, staff and spectators.
The Big Lime Weekend usually takes place within Hartlepool Marina and at Seaton Carew. It comprises a Friday evening predictor swim, an aquathlon on the Saturday and the flagship sprint triathlon on the final day.
Senior Sport and Physical Activity Coordinator Ryan Houghton said: “This is the first time we have had to postpone since launching in 2013, and it was scheduled to be a big year for the triathlon with it having recently received North East Championship Status.
“However, the safety of competitors, staff and spectators is paramount and, therefore, we felt we had no other option but to postpone.”
Dates for next year’s event are still to be confirmed but competitors who had already entered this year have the option of automatically rolling over their entry into 2021. They can, however, request a refund by emailing their details to email@example.com before August 14th 2020.
