We are really excited that we will be re-opening, following the Government’s recent announcement that leisure centres, gyms and pools can reopen from Wednesday 2nd December!

 

The Chief Medical Officer, Professor Chris Whitty, said back in April “There is no situation, no age, no condition, where exercise is not a good thing.” We really believe this and can’t wait to be able to offer facilities for our customers to exercise in again.

 

We’ve been busy making further changes, training our staff on new policies and procedures and getting ready to reopen again.

              

We are preparing for you to comeback to us…

 

To make sure that everyone – customers and staff are safe, we will be operating differently when we re-open. 

 

We have modified and improved our approach to cleaning and hygiene, with new procedures, new equipment and clearer guidance for customers to follow.

 

We have new methods of booking activities and we have modified the number of people able to attend classes and sessions, to make sure that we can continue to operate within the guidelines set out by the Government and the leisure industry.

Playing YOUR part, in keeping our facilities safe and hygienic

 

It is really important, when you come back to us, that you also play your part too!

 

So, we’d like you to follow the following simple rules. Don’t worry, we will have information throughout our centres to remind you of what you need to do!

 

Here goes…

 - If you have any Covid-19 symptoms, if you are self-isolating, sharing a household or support bubble with somebody who has symptoms in the last 14 days or if you have been advised by the NHS test and trace service to self-isolate, please don't enter any of our facilities. 

 

 - Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds, especially after touching surfaces touched by others. 

 

 - Sanitiser stations will be available throughout our sites to use as often as you want. 

 

 - Maintain a distance of at least 2 metres.

 

 - Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. 

 

 - Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue if you cough or sneeze. 

 

- Wear a face covering in all communal areas of our facilities.

 

 - We are accepting card and cash payments, but please pay by card where possible.

 

 - Wipe down all equipment after use using the cleaning stations available. 

 - Personal towels are no longer allowed within the gym / fitness classes. 

 - Please bring your own exercise mat for fitness classes. 

 

 - Be mindful and respectful of others at all times.

 

Phased reopening of our facilities

Following a phased approach to fitness set out by the Government, we are running with a reduced offering while we are in tier 3.

Our plans are as follows:

Brierton Sports Centre – Gym – relocated in the Sports Hall, 3G Pitch, All Weather Games Area & Dance Studio

Mill House Leisure Centre – Swimming Pools – lane swimming and club use, Learner Pool – family swim sessions, Sports Hall available for club training & bookings

Headland Sports Centre – Gym relocated into the Sports Hall

Summerhill Visitors Centre – closed to the public, access to the Summerhill Country Park is open

 

Unfortunately, while Hartlepool is in tier 3 we are unable to run indoor fitness classes. We are still running our online fitness class timetable which can be viewed here.

We are implementing the NHS test and trace app within all of our facilities. This will need to be scanned every time a customer enters our facilities. Coming back...

Which dates are you opening facilities on and what are opening hours going to be?


The leisure centres will reopen on Wednesday 2nd December 2020.

Opening hours are as follows;

Mill House Leisure Centre

- weekdays 6:30am-8:45pm

- weekends 8:00am-3:30pm

Brierton Sports Centre

- weekdays 7:00am-8:00pm (closed 11:00am-12:00pm & 4:00pm-5:00pm for deep cleaning)

- weekends 8:00am-2:00pm (closed 11:00am-12:00pm for deep cleaning)

Headland Sports Centre

- weekdays 7:00am-12:00noon & 4:00pm-8:00pm




How will I know what to do and where to go, when I come back?


Our friendly staff will be available to help, support and guide customers through the facilities and during activities.

Feel free to ask them any questions you might have - they've missed speaking to you all!




Can I use the changing rooms and showers when I come back?


Yes, but only they are only open for swimming customers. Ideally, please attend your swimming session beach ready, so you're able to go straight into the pool.

For gym customers we also require you to attend the facility dressed ready for your activity.

Will toilets be open and clean for me to use?


Yes, but not all of the toilets will be open in the facilities.

There will be signage to show you which toilets are open and which are closed.

We have also increased the frequency of cleaning within the toilets to ensure they are clean and safe for customers to use.




Can I turn up and pay when I get there?


No, all activities must be booked in advance before turning up to the centre.

This is to enable us to safely control the number within the facilities at all times.

Do I need to be a Member to be able to take part in activities?


No you don't need to be a member to take part in activities.

For booking purposes, members do get an advantage. Members can book 7 days in advance (8 days when using our online booking system), but non-members can only book 3 days in advance.

However, you will need to have already completed a gym induction prior to accessing the gym. If you haven’t already done one, we have some slots available for you to complete one with us.

The induction slots at Brierton Sports Centre are as follows;

- 10:00am

Sunday

- 10:00am

The induction slots at Headland Sports Centre are as follows;

We will be collecting contact details for all customers accessing our facilities, in line with GDPR requirements. This is to help test and trace to identify people who may have been exposed to the Corona virus. We have a privacy statement available with full details about what will happen with your data, this can be viewed here.




How do I pay? By cash or card?


You can pay by either cash or card.

However we would prefer card payments were possible. All of our card machines have contactless payment functionality, so you don't need to worry about entering your PIN.




Will my 12 month membership be extended?


Yes, all memberships will be extended to take into account any time lost due to the closure of our facilities due to Covid-19.

You won't have to do anything for this to happen, we will update our membership records to reflect this.




Do we still need to use our membership cards in site?


Yes, we do require members to bring their Active Card with them when they visit the facilities.

If you've lost your card, that's no problem. We can issue you with a new card when you visit the site.

You will only have a membership card if you are an existing member of our sites. To become a member please contact us on 01429 523338.

Our reception staff won't take the card from you, they will ask you to read your member number off the card to them. If your member number isn't visible anymore, don't worry, we will issue you with a new card to use.




When will my membership resume?


All membership payments will resume from 2nd December 2020.

Direct debit memberships payments will resume on 1st January 2021.




Are you using the NHS test and trace app?


Yes, all of our sites will have a QR code at the entrance. Please scan this using the NHS Covid-19 app every time you enter the facilities.

If you aren’t able to download the NHS Covid-19 app, there will be paper forms you can complete on site.





Cleaning & hygiene...

Will the facilities be clean and hygienic?


Yes, all facilities have been deep cleaned prior to reopening.

We have also introduced a comprehensive cleaning programme at all of our facilities. With increased cleaning regimes in place. All high touch point areas such as door handles, toilets, cubicles etc will be disinfected every 1 hour throughout the day.

We have also purchased specialist cleaning equipment to be used in our facilities. These will be used within the facilities at least three times per day.




As a customer, what do I need to do to stay safe?


Firstly, we would really appreciate your help and support to make sure that our facilities are safe environments for everyone – other customers and staff.

We ask all customers to do the following while using our facilities / services;

- declare that you aren't experiencing any Covid-19 symptoms upon entering the facilities

- if you start to feel unwell while using the facilities please notify a member of staff and then leave the facility as soon as possible

- wash / sanitise your hands when entering and leaving the building, as well as regularly throughout your use of the facility, especially when touching surfaces touched by others

- abide by the 2m social distancing guidance

- please wear a face covering while in all communal areas of the facilities

- follow the one way systems that have been put into place

- follow the advice / guidance given by staff members

- follow the guidance given on any signage within the facility




What extra measures are being put in place?


We have put the following in place to keep all of our customers, and staff safe within our facilities and to keep the building clean:

- hand sanitisation stations have been installed throughout centres

- appropriate signage displayed reminding customers and staff of good hygiene procedures, social distancing and one way systems

- staff have received training in Covid-19 awareness and will be happy to provide help and guidance where appropriate

- additional staff will be available to support with increased cleaning

- we will be operating with reduced participant numbers for all activities




Do you have sanitiser and cleaning stations in the facilities?


In addition to handwashing facilities in toilets there will be hand sanitising stations located at the entrances and throughout our facilities, including at the entrances to any activity areas.




Do I have to wear a mask inside the centres?


All customers are required to wear a face covering while entering and exiting the building, as well as while they're in all communal areas of the facilities.

Signage will be in place to advise customers of where they need to wear a face covering.




Do I need to stay 2m away from other people at all times within the centre?


Yes. Please ensure you remain 2m away from other customers and staff at all times within our facilities.

If other customers don’t appear to be keeping their distance, then you can ask them to do so. Also, our staff will be present to provide advice and guidance.




What changes have you made to enable social distancing?


We have made the following changes within our facilities to enable social distancing;

- social distancing floor stickers are in place throughout our facilities

- one way systems have been put into place

- staff will encourage all customers to abide by the 2m social distancing rules while using the facilities

- signage is in place throughout the centres reminding customers and staff to remain socially distanced

- only areas and equipment will be available where social distancing is possible, in some cases equipment will be moved into other areas of the facility at 2m distances as a minimum





Gym, exercise & fitness...

Are the gym’s going to be fully open?


During this phased reopening plan, Brierton Sports Centre and the Headland Sports Centre will be open for members to use. Only members who have completed a gym induction at any of our three sites can access the gym during this phase.

However, the gym equipment has been moved into the Sports Hall to allow for social distancing. There is a dedicated weights room at each site for free weights and weight machines.




Can a child still use the gym?


Children aged 10-16 years are able to use the gym at Brierton Sports Centre and the Headland Sports Centre, however those 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Children will need to of completed a gym induction prior to using the facilities.




Do I have to book the gym and fitness classes? If so, how do I do it?


Yes, all gym and fitness classes must be booked in advance due to limited capacity and to enable us to safeguard social distancing.

What do I need to do if I need to cancel my booking?


Please contact the facility direct on 01429 523338 to cancel your booking.

Cancelling your booking will allow us to allocate your space within the gym to someone else.




How long will I have in the gym?


Each gym session will be 50 minutes long for customers.




How much will it cost to access the gym and join classes?


During this phase of reopening, membership fees and casual concession prices will apply.

If you have a monthly membership that includes the gym and you haven't frozen / cancelled it you won't have to pay for each session.




What rules and procedures do I have to follow?


Normal facility rules and procedures will apply as usual, in addition to Covid-19 government guidance.

All rules and procedures will be on display within facilities.




How many people will be allowed in the gym at any one time?


During this phase of reopening at Brierton Sports Centre, only 20 people will be allowed in at any one time.

This will drop down to 17 if we have a gym induction taking place.

During this phase of reopening at Headland Sports Centre, only 10 people will be allowed in at any one time.




What extra measures are being put in place?


There will be staff present within the gym; additional cleaning measures have been put in place; new signage is in place to advise and guide you and one way systems will operate. In addition the extra cleaning will to take place when the facilities are closed.




Will staff be present in the gym to supervise users?


Yes, we will be providing additional team members to supervise customers within the gym.

Please feel free to ask them any questions or for help.




Will equipment be cleaned after it’s been used?


Whilst staff will be cleaning equipment, customers will also be required to clean equipment before and after use. We will provide antibacterial wipes for customers to use, but we would request that you don’t use personal towels etc to clean equipment after use.




I require a carer/helper to attend the gym – is this allowed?


Yes, this is still allowed within the facility.

Please make us aware of this when booking your slot though so we don't go over our allocated spaces for the gym.




Are G.P. Referral sessions resuming?


Our G.P. Referral programme will return when it is safe to do so.

Swimming...

When will Mill House Leisure Centre reopen?


Mill House Leisure Centre will reopen on Wednesday 2nd December 2020.

The pool will reopen for public lane swimming and the sports hall will be available for club bookings.

The learner pool at Mill House Leisure Centre will also reopen for family swim sessions.

Will swimming clubs be using the pools?


Yes swimming clubs will be able to use the pools as soon as Mill House Leisure Centre reopens.




When will Learn to Swim lessons be starting?


We currently don't have a set date for the return of our Learn to Swim programme. This is because current government guidance only permits limited sessions and activities to take place in the swimming pools. We plan to introduce swimming lessons as soon as it is safe to do so.

Can I get changed into my swimming costume when I arrive?


Yes, however we would encourage all swimmers to come beach ready.




Can I shower and change before I go home?


Yes, changing rooms and showers are available for swimming customers to use.




What other measures are being put in place?


We have put the following measures in place;

- reduced numbers within the pool at any one time

- additional cleaning has been put in place

- additional staff available to help and supervise

- signage is in place to give guidance

- we have changed the adult / child ratio, it is now that under 14's aren't able to access our facilities without an adult

- we have changed our programme to lane swimming only




I require a carer/helper to attend the pool – is this allowed?


Yes, this is still allowed within the facility.

Please make us aware of this when booking your slot though so we don't go over our allocated spaces for the pool.




When will water based fitness classes start again?


During this phase of reopening they won't be on our programme. While we are in tier 3 fitness classes aren’t permitted to take place indoors.




Is it only lane swimming available?


Yes, during this phase of reopening our programme will only have lane swimming available.

The 20m pool and 25m pool are available for lane swimming from Wednesday 2nd December 2020.

Primary School Swimming Lessons will return from w/c 2nd November. While lessons are taking place only the 25m pool will be open for lane swimming.

The learner pool at Mill House Leisure Centre will reopen for family swim sessions from Friday 4th December 2020.




Do I need to book a session for swimming? If so, how do I do it?


Yes, all swimming sessions must be booked in advance.

Will the sauna and steam room be open?


During this phase of reopening the sauna and steam room won’t be open.

We are opening our facilities as safely as possible and unfortunately the sauna and steam room don’t allow for social distancing. We will open this area as soon as it is safe to do so.

Are lockers still available in the changing rooms for me to use?


Lockers will be available for customers to use, however, if you don’t feel comfortable using a locker there will be tables on poolside for customers to leave their belongings.




Can I still bring a drink with me and keep this on poolside?


Yes, you can still bring a drink onto poolside with you during your swimming session, but instead of leaving this on the edge of the pool, we will have a table on poolside for you to leave your drink on, alongside your personal belongings.

Customers will need to exit the pool briefly for a drink, to enable us to maintain social distancing within the pool.




Will the learner pool be open?


The learner pool at Mill House Leisure Centre will reopen for family swim sessions from Friday 4th December 2020.

The family swim session times are as follows;

Friday

  • 1:00pm
  • 2:30pm

Saturday & Sunday

  • 8:30am
  • 10:00am
  • 11:30am
  • 1:00pm
  • 2:30pm

Family swim sessions will be 45 minutes long.

A family is a maximum of 2 adults and 3 children. Only two families will be allowed in the pool at once.

There will be separate changing facilities for each family, you will be directed to these when you arrive at Mill House Leisure Centre.

The cost per family will be £7. If you have an Active Family membership this will be free.





Team activities...

When can I book a squash court?


During this phase of reopening, the squash courts will be unavailable due to current government guidance on team / indoor contact sports.

When can I play 5-a-side inside?


During this phase of reopening, indoor 5-a-side will be unavailable due to current government guidance for tier 3.

When can I play badminton / table tennis?


Badminton and table tennis will be available at the Headland Sports Centre and Brierton Sports Centre from Wednesday 2nd December 2020.

We can only have a maximum of 4 people per court, and they must be from the same household or support bubble due to tier 3 restrictions.

Customers must bring their own equipment for badminton and table tennis, we are unable to hire any equipment out.

When can I play basketball inside?


Once Mill House Leisure Centre reopens to the public the sports hall will be available for club bookings for basketball which follow the Basketball England guidance.

Unfortunately basketball isn’t currently available for customers to pay-and-play until Basketball England guidance reaches Level 0.

What are the local restrictions?


Hartlepool has been put into tier 3.

Can I play badminton / table tennis with someone who isn’t in my household / support bubble?


No, you can only play badminton / table tennis with someone who is within your own household or support bubble.




Will swimming / fitness classes be affected by the local restrictions?


Swimming can still resume.

However indoor fitness classes can’t take place while we are in tier 3.

We want to remind all customers that they must follow social distancing guidance while arriving, while in and while exiting the facilities at all times.




Can I car share to the facility with someone who isn’t in my household / support bubble?


We advise all customers that they shouldn’t be travelling to / from the facilities with anyone who isn’t part of their household or support bubble.
