When you visit our sites from Monday 6th September, you will now have the option to wear a face covering or visor. There are also no longer any restrictions attending facilities in larger groups with people from other households.

 

However, to help to continue to minimise the risk of infection, we do request that you continue to:

  • pre-book some of our activities. You can do this at https://leisure.hartlepool.gov.uk/bookings or by phoning us on (01429) 523338

  • attend “game ready” where possible

  • maintain social distancing at all times

  • utilise hand-sanitiser stations and hand-washing facilities

  • clean down any activity class and gym equipment before and after use, with the materials provided

  • respect other customers and staff on-site

  • follow the guidance and signage provided

  • utilise the test and trace systems still in place at the sites using the QR codes of paper forms

 

We remain committed to safeguarding your health and wellbeing and hope that you will join us in continuing to also look after our team members too. So, we will:​

  • retain all existing and appropriate Covid measures including protective screens in reception areas, hand sanitiser stations, directional signage and enhanced building and equipment cleaning schedules

  • ensure that facilities are appropriately ventilated and have good air quality, through the use of Co2 monitors

We are implementing the NHS test and trace app within all of our facilities. We ask you to scan this every time you enters our facilities. Which dates are you opening facilities on and what are opening hours going to be?


The leisure centres have now reopened.

Opening hours are as follows;

Mill House Leisure Centre

- weekdays 6:30am-8:45pm

- weekends 8:00am-3:30pm

Brierton Sports Centre

- weekdays 7:00am-9:00pm

- weekends 8:00am-4:00pm

Headland Sports Centre

- weekdays 7:00am-12:00noon & 4:00pm-8:00pm




How will I know what to do and where to go, when I come back?


Our friendly staff will be available to help, support and guide customers through the facilities and during activities.

Feel free to ask them any questions you might have - they've missed speaking to you all!




Can I use the changing rooms and showers when I come back?


From Monday 6th September changing rooms and showers will be open.

If you have any specific needs with regards to access to changing rooms and showers within our facilities, please contact us on 01429 523338 for more information.




Will toilets be open and clean for me to use?


From Monday 6th September all toilets will be reopen.

We have also increased the frequency of cleaning within the toilets to ensure they are clean and safe for customers to use.




Can I turn up and pay when I get there?


From Monday 6th September you don’t need to book in advance. Although for fitness classes we do recommend you book in advance to secure your place.

Do I need to be a Member to be able to take part in activities?


No you don't need to be a member to take part in activities.

For booking purposes, members do get an advantage. Members can book 7 days in advance (8 days when using our online booking system), but non-members can only book 3 days in advance. Non-members must pay at the time of booking.

However, you will need to have already completed a gym induction prior to accessing the gym. If you haven’t already done one, we have some slots available for you to complete one with us.

We will be collecting contact details for all customers accessing our facilities, in line with GDPR requirements. This is to help test and trace to identify people who may have been exposed to the Corona virus. We have a privacy statement available with full details about what will happen with your data, this can be viewed here.




How do I pay? By cash or card?


You can pay by either cash or card.

However we would prefer card payments were possible. All of our card machines have contactless payment functionality, so you don't need to worry about entering your PIN.




Do we still need to use our membership cards in site?


Yes, we do require members to bring their Active Card with them when they visit the facilities.

If you've lost your card, that's no problem. We can issue you with a new card when you visit the site.

You will only have a membership card if you are an existing member of our sites. To become a member please contact us on 01429 523338.

Our reception staff won't take the card from you, they will ask you to read your member number off the card to them. If your member number isn't visible anymore, don't worry, we will issue you with a new card to use.




Are you using the NHS test and trace app?


Yes, all of our sites will have a QR code at the entrance. We ask that all customers still scan this using the NHS Covid-19 app every time you enter the facilities.

If you aren’t able to download the NHS Covid-19 app, there will be paper forms you can complete on site.





Cleaning and Hygiene

Will the facilities be clean and hygienic?


Yes, all facilities have been deep cleaned prior to reopening.

We have also introduced a comprehensive cleaning programme at all of our facilities. With increased cleaning regimes in place. All high touch point areas such as door handles, toilets, cubicles etc will be disinfected every 1 hour throughout the day.

We have also purchased specialist cleaning equipment to be used in our facilities. These will be used within the facilities at least three times per day.




As a customer, what do I need to do to stay safe?


Firstly, we would really appreciate your help and support to make sure that our facilities are safe environments for everyone – other customers and staff.

We ask all customers to do the following while using our facilities / services;

- declare that you aren't experiencing any Covid-19 symptoms upon entering the facilities

- if you start to feel unwell while using the facilities please notify a member of staff and then leave the facility as soon as possible

- wash / sanitise your hands when entering and leaving the building, as well as regularly throughout your use of the facility, especially when touching surfaces touched by others

- abide by the 2m social distancing guidance

- please wear a face covering while in all communal areas of the facilities, this is optional

- follow the one way systems that have been put into place

- follow the advice / guidance given by staff members

- follow the guidance given on any signage within the facility




What extra measures are being put in place?


We have put the following in place to keep all of our customers, and staff safe within our facilities and to keep the building clean:

- hand sanitisation stations have been installed throughout centres

- appropriate signage displayed reminding customers and staff of good hygiene procedures, social distancing and one way systems

- staff have received training in Covid-19 awareness and will be happy to provide help and guidance where appropriate

- additional staff will be available to support with increased cleaning

- we will be operating with reduced participant numbers for all activities

- Co2 sensors have been installed within facilities




Do you have sanitiser and cleaning stations in the facilities?


In addition to handwashing facilities in toilets there will be hand sanitising stations located at the entrances and throughout our facilities, including at the entrances to any activity areas.




Do I have to wear a mask inside the centres?


All customers are asked to wear a face covering while entering and exiting the building, as well as while they're in all communal areas of the facilities.

Signage will be in place to advise customers of where they need to wear a face covering.

This is optional for customers.




Do I need to stay 2m away from other people at all times within the centre?


Yes. We ask that you remain 2m away from other customers and staff at all times within our facilities.

If other customers don’t appear to be keeping their distance, then you can ask them to do so. Also, our staff will be present to provide advice and guidance.




What changes have you made to enable social distancing?


We have made the following changes within our facilities to enable social distancing;

- social distancing floor stickers are in place throughout our facilities

- one way systems have been put into place

- staff will encourage all customers to abide by the 2m social distancing rules while using the facilities

- signage is in place throughout the centres reminding customers and staff to remain socially distanced





Gym, Exercise and Fitness

Are the gym’s going to be fully open?


During this phased reopening plan, the gym at Mill House Leisure Centre, Brierton Sports Centre and the Headland Sports Centre will be open for members to use.

Only members who have completed a gym induction at any of our three sites can access the gym during this phase.




Can a child still use the gym?


Children aged 10-16 years are able to use the gym at Mill House Leisure Centre, Brierton Sports Centre and the Headland Sports Centre, however those aged 10-12 years must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Children will need to have completed a gym induction prior to using the facilities.




Do I have to book the gym and fitness classes? If so, how do I do it?


From Monday 6th September you don’t need to book in advance.

Although we would recommend that fitness classes are booked in advance to secure your place.

What do I need to do if I need to cancel my booking?


Please contact the facility direct on 01429 523338 to cancel your booking.

Cancelling your booking will allow us to allocate your space within fitness classes to someone else.




How long will I have in the gym?


From Monday 6th September there will be no time limit on gym sessions.




How much will it cost to access the gym and join classes?


Membership fees and our usual prices will apply.

If you have a monthly membership that includes the gym / fitness classes and you haven't frozen / cancelled it you won't have to pay for each session.




What rules and procedures do I have to follow?


Normal facility rules and procedures will apply as usual, in addition to Covid-19 government guidance.

All rules and procedures will be on display within facilities.




How many people will be allowed in the gym at any one time?


From Monday 6th September we will go back to our pervious capacities in the gyms.

For Mill House Leisure Centre this is 25. For Headland Sports Centre this is 24. And for Brierton Sports Centre this is 26.




What extra measures are being put in place?


There will be staff present within the gym; additional cleaning measures have been put in place; new signage is in place to advise and guide you and one way systems will operate.




Will staff be present in the gym to supervise users?


Yes, we will be providing additional team members to supervise customers within the gym.

Please feel free to ask them any questions or for help.




Will equipment be cleaned after it’s been used?


Whilst staff will be cleaning equipment, customers will also be required to clean equipment before and after use. We will provide antibacterial wipes for customers to use, although personal towels are now allowed in the gym, we would request that you don’t use personal towels etc to clean equipment after use.




I require a carer/helper to attend the gym – is this allowed?


Yes, this is still allowed within the facility.




Are G.P. Referral sessions resuming?


Specialist supervised activity sessions for those who are managing long term health conditions will now be monitored through the Community Hub Wellbeing Team.

Are mum and baby fitness sessions returning?


Our mum and baby fitness programme will start to return from June 2021.

Our pre-natal fitness programme will return when it is safe to do so.

Swimming

When will Mill House Leisure Centre reopen?


The pools at Mill House Leisure Centre are now open.




When will the pool programme be published?

Will swimming clubs be using the pools?


Yes swimming clubs will be using the pools at Mill House Leisure Centre.




When will Learn to Swim lessons be starting?


The learn to swim programme will restart at Mill House Leisure Centre from Monday 19th April 2021.

Can I get changed into my swimming costume when I arrive?


Yes, however we would encourage all swimmers to come beach ready.




Can I shower and change before I go home?


Yes, changing rooms and showers are available for swimming customers to use.




What other measures are being put in place?


We have put the following measures in place;

- additional staff available to help and supervise

- signage is in place to give guidance




I require a carer/helper to attend the pool – is this allowed?

Is it only lane swimming available?


From Monday 13th September we will be reopening with a varied pool programme.

We will be publishing this pool programme as soon as it is finalised.




Do I need to book a session for swimming? If so, how do I do it?


From Monday 13th September you won’t need to book a swimming session in advance.

Customers can just turn up while the pool is open for a session.




How long will I have during my swimming session?


From Monday 13th September swimming sessions will be 1 hour.




How much will a swimming session cost me?


Membership fees and our usual prices will apply.

If you have a monthly membership that includes swimming, and you haven't frozen / cancelled it you won't have to pay for each session.




Will the sauna and steam room be open?


During this phase of reopening the sauna and steam room won’t be open.

We are opening our facilities as safely as possible and unfortunately the sauna and steam room don’t allow for social distancing. We will open this area as soon as it is safe to do so.

Are lockers still available in the changing rooms for me to use?


Lockers will be available for customers to use, however, if you don’t feel comfortable using a locker there will be tables on poolside for customers to leave their belongings.




Can I still bring a drink with me and keep this on poolside?


Yes, you can still bring a drink onto poolside with you during your swimming session, but instead of leaving this on the edge of the pool, we will have a table on poolside for you to leave your drink on, alongside your personal belongings.

Customers will need to exit the pool briefly for a drink, to enable us to maintain social distancing within the pool.




Will the learner pool be open?


From Monday 13th September the learner pool will reopen for customers to use.

We will be publishing the new pool programme as soon as it is finalised.





Team Activities

When can I book a squash court?


The squash courts at Mill House Leisure Centre have now reopened.

When can I play 5-a-side inside?


Indoor 5-a-side will return from Monday 6th September to all sites.

The 3G pitch at Brierton Sports Centre will be open for members to book a pitch to play outdoor football.

When can I play badminton / table tennis?


Badminton and table tennis bookings are now available at Mill House Leisure Centre, Headland Sports Centre and Brierton Sports Centre.

Swimming Lessons

When will swimming lessons restart?


We have reintroduced the Learn to Swim programme in phases as follows;

Phase 1 – Duckling stages 1-4 & Learn to Swim stages 3-7 restarted on Monday 19th April

Phase 2 – As above, including Learn to Swim stages 2 restarted on Monday 24th May.

We will move on to the phase 3 as soon as our capacity can be increased and it is safe to do so.

Phase 3 – As above including Learn to Swim Stage 1

Phase 4 – As above including new customers & Parent and Baby lessons




Will our class times change?


Class times will be changing to accommodate the guidelines and the additional cleaning we have in place. We will also be adding additional times / days for swimming lessons to ensure we have plenty of spaces available.

What should we do if we get Covid-19 symptoms?


If you or anyone in your household develops Covid-19 symptoms please do not enter the centre for 10 days or until you have taken a Covid-19 test which has returned negative and you no longer have symptoms.




Can we spectate in the swimming lessons?


We recommend 1 adult per child to attend for swimming lessons, this is for safeguarding purposes and no spectators are allowed in the building when we recommence lessons.

The parent guardian for each child will be allocated a place around poolside.




Can we use changing rooms when we are attending the lessons?


We would like you to turn up to lessons ‘swim ready’, changing areas will only be available after the lessons, cubicles will be allocated on exit of the lessons and cleaned thoroughly between uses.




Will showers be available?


We recommend showering at home and only a quick rinse will be available for post swimming lesson. The showers unfortunately will not be available to wash hair etc.




Will we enter / exit the same way for swimming lessons?


The entry to lessons will be slightly different as we have introduced a one way system.

You will need to use hand sanitizer and have a temperature check which will be explained on the arrival at the centre.




Will equipment be used within the lessons?


We will keep equipment to a minimum and all equipment used will be cleaned between lessons.




How many children will be in the swimming lesson?


We have reduced the number of participants taking part in lessons. This has been worked out on the space available so that children can socially distance.




What will happen to direct debit payments should we need to self isolate?


We will amend your payment for the following month to refund the lessons owed.




What if my situation has changed?

Will you be taking on new customers for learn to swim lessons?


Unfortunately we will be accommodating our existing customers only during this phase of reopening.

As soon as we are able to release spaces for new customers this will be advertised. If you are looking to sign up for lessons please send us an email to swimming.lessons@hartlepool.gov.uk and we can add your details to our waiting list.




Will parent & baby sessions be restarting?


During this phase of reopening parent & baby swimming lessons won’t be available.

We will reintroduce these sessions as soon as it is safe to do so.
