COACH, LEADER AND VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT

Development Group

The Hartlepool Coach, Leader and Volunteer Development Group, made up of the Sport and Physical Activity Team, Hartlepool 6th Form College,

Hartlepool College of Further Education, Tees Valley Sport and local secondary schools.

The group was established to enhance the existing support and development currently available to coaches, leaders and volunteers.

A broad range of organisations in Hartlepool utilise coaches, leaders and volunteers for the delivery of sport and activity therefore investing into future

development is important for the success of sport in the town.

A comprehensive Coach, Leader and Volunteer Development Programme was devised in response to analysis conducted with a range of partners

including clubs, education, voluntary sector and others.

This has helped the group prioritise the support that is needed within Hartlepool to ensure better coaches, effective leaders and more volunteers for greater success in sport.

In addition to the above Volunteer Management Guidance forms have been produced to support clubs and organisations with the effective recruitment, induction, development and retention of coaches, leaders and volunteers.

Meetings take place quarterly and support is ongoing throughout the year.  No specific costs are associated with this service, although there is a charge for attendance on certain workshops which is stipulated within the training and development programme.

To receive support through this initiative or for information, email sport.recreation@hartlepool.gov.uk.

Training

The Sport and Physical Activity Team provide a comprehensive training and development programme for coaches, leaders, volunteers and educational

staff to access.

Training varies and is identified through consultation with key partners such as Tees Valley Sport, educational establishments, clubs

and national governing bodies.

Various facilities are utilised depending on the nature of the course and the target audience.  Courses are arranged throughout the year and

consultation assists with establishing dates and times.

Courses are arranged through the training and development programme with Hartlepool Borough Council.  However, other

organisations such as national governing bodies may organise courses in the town.

In addition to the above if an organisation is willing to provide a suitable facility to host a workshop assigned to the training and development programme an agreement will be made in regards to funded places.

The programme accommodates everyone; however, courses are specifically designed for different target audiences.  Booking for courses is essential and can be done by emailing feelgood@hartlepool.gov.uk or calling 01429 284414.
